Thomas Bramel has scored documentary films aired on PBS. He has composed chamber music, incidental music for plays, a ballet, orchestral music, choral scores, concert band music, and a CD of tone poems entitled Call of the Prophets. Collaborating on artistic projects is a special joy.
Bramel uses sophisticated technical and mathematical composition techniques to explore nuances of human emotions.
Bramel's educational lineage can be traced to the early 20th Century Russian system of music instruction (which produced Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff) from Alexander Glazunov through Joseph Schillinger, Lyle Dowling, and Asher Zlotnik. Schillinger taught George Gershwin, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and many others. Dowling was the co-editor of The Schillinger System of Musical Composition, in which Bramel is an expert. Zlotnik, Bramel's teacher, tutored many professional classical and jazz musicians, arrangers and composers.
